b = width of section;
h = thickness of section;
f m,d = design value of concrete compressive strength
= coefficient for considering the second order theory effects on the bearing capacity of compression members of unreinforced concrete in immovably braced structures;
etot = total eccentricity = e0 + ea + e
e0 = load eccentricity according to first order theory, where necessary taking the actions from adjoining floors into consideration (e.g. bending moments as a result of fixity, transferred from a slab to the wall), as well as the horizontal actions of wind ea, and the additional unintentional eccentricity as a result of geometric imperfections. If more precise data is not available, ea may be assumed at = 0.5 l0/200.
= eccentricity resulting from creep; generally, the e component can be disregarded.
